Looping Rig

Some fellow musicians ask about the setup used to create the live looping arrangements, so here’s a brief overview of the system behind the show.

The OneManBrad show is built around a live looping setup that allows a single guitar to create the sound of a full band.

Each song is constructed live by layering rhythm, bass lines, textures and lead parts, all captured and controlled in real time.

Core Equipment

  • Guitars Fender Stratocaster; Fender Acoustasonic Stratocaster; La Calavera (Customer guitar from ODD guitars)
  • Line 6 HX Stomp – amp modelling and effects
  • Boss RC-600 Loop Station – live looping and track control
  • Morningstar MC8 Pro MIDI Controller – preset and control management
  • Templeboard Duo 24 – integrated pedalboard with power, audio I/O and USB connections
  • Electro-Voice EV30M – Portable Column Array PA system

How the System Works

The Morningstar MC8 Pro MIDI controller acts as the brain of the system, managing song selection and sending the correct preset messages to the HX Stomp and RC-600 so each song starts with the right setup. During a performance it also handles control changes within a song, allowing sections, sounds and looping functions to change smoothly while the music continues.

The guitar signal passes through the HX Stomp for amp tones and effects before reaching the RC-600 looper. From there, individual parts are recorded and layered to build the arrangement live.

Design Philosophy

The system is designed to keep the performance flexible while keeping the technology mostly invisible. The focus remains on the music and the interaction with the audience, while the MIDI control and looping system handle the technical coordination behind the scenes.

While the technology behind the setup is interesting to fellow musicians, the goal is simple — to support a relaxed, engaging live performance built around familiar songs.
